Introducing FairAI

Fair is the first decentralised marketplace, powered by Arweave, where creators of open-source AI models can monetise their work while users retain ownership.
AI is everywhere and will become even more of a reality in the next few years. Such a disruptive technology can significantly impact our lives, but this impact can only be positive if AI is open-source.
That is because if one of the closed-source AI companies, like OpenAI or Midjourney, reaches AGI first, that company can exercise control over everything, resulting in a winner-takes-all situation. In this utopian world, society could not inspect, compete with, or replicate this AI, potentially making the whole civilisation a slave to that company.
We can empower and utilise more open-source AI models to prevent negative AGI. This approach increases AI’s transparency and trustness, as everyone can inspect, fork, and modify the models. Additionally, open-source AI provides other indisputable benefits to users, such as increased customisation, control, composability, and innovation.
While this all sounds very promising, several problems prevent open-source AI from reaching its true potential:
- Monetisation: Although there are great open-source AI solutions, they fail to reach their true potential because creators cannot generate sufficient revenue. Without fair monetisation, developing better models becomes difficult, slowing the progress of open-source AI.
- Technical complexity: Open-source AI models are not accessible to most users, only those with some technical knowledge. Furthermore, the most significant models also require hardware that only some people can access.
- Modularity: Open-source AI offers the possibility of combining solutions, making it possible to combine multiple models and have an even more complete solution. Yet, there is no platform where creators can work together.
- Lack of ownership: Users have no ownership over the AI content they generate nor Intellectual Property rights. This means that they can lose access to the content they generate at any time, either due to attacks on centralised platforms or possible restrictions.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a solution that solved all these problems?
That’s where FairAI comes in. Fair is the first decentralised marketplace, powered by Arweave, where creators of open-source AI models can monetise their work while users retain ownership.
And how does our solution promote the development of open-source AI?

FairAI solves the monetisation problem by ensuring all participants receive fair compensation. When a creator uploads their model, they are guaranteed to receive a fee for each prompt made to their model. Besides, it offers other vital advantages, like:
- DePIN: Computing is done in a decentralised way. This invites anyone to be an operator and provide computation for the models, receiving revenue for doing so. This solves the technical complexity and means that computing is done efficiently, resiliently and performantly.
- Composability: Our solution facilitates collaboration within the open-source AI community. Creators can upload their models, curators can create scripts to interact with the models and combine them, and operators can run the scripts, making AI accessible to everyone.
- Ownership & Intellectual Property Rights We believe creators and users should have complete control over their creations. With FairAI, they have ownership and IP rights. This means that users own their prompts and inferences, and creators own their models.
- Permanent & Immutable Powered by the Arweave blockchain, our solution ensures the data is available forever and immutable. The models, scripts, data, and our front end are securely stored on Arweave, guaranteeing long-term preservation.
- Control By combining technical characteristics such as permanence, immutability and decentralisation, our solution allows users to have complete control and fully experience the potential of open-source AI models.

If you are still reading this article, we believe that, like us, you also think that AI should be open-source.
And would you like to know the best part? Our marketplace is already live, and it’s possible to easily use all types of high-quality open-source models, from image models to audio and even video, all in one place.
